Finger tip injuries

Fingertip injuries are the most common emergency cases seen in Hand Surgery. Improper or inadequate treatment may result in a painful, deformed stump that may compromise the function of the hand.

General factors influencing the choice of treatment include the physiological age, and general physical and mental health of the patient. Complex reconstructive procedures are usually reserved for healthy individuals who can tolerate extended anaesthesia. Specific considerations include hand dominance and the occupational or hobby-related demands of the patient. Lastly, the available surgical facilities and expertise will determine the degree of reconstruction that can be performed.
